Supportive  Policies   In  2007,  the  Ministry  of  Local  Government,  Rural  Development  and  Environment,  together  with   relevant  sanitation  agencies,  produced  a  National  Environmental  Sanitation  Strategy  and  Action   Plan  to  improve  the  sanitation  situation.  Principal  components  of  the  strategy  include:   • collection   and   sanitary   disposal   of   wastes,   including   solid   wastes,   liquid   wastes,   excreta,   industrial  wastes,  healthcare  and  other  hazardous  wastes;   • storm  water  drainage;   • cleansing  of  thoroughfares,  markets,  and  other  public  space   • control  of  pests  and  other  vector  disease;   • food  hygiene;   • environmental  sanitation  education;   • inspection  and  enforcement  of  sanitary  regulations;   • control  of  rearing  and  straying  animals;   • monitoring  the  observance  of  environmental  standards.   149
