Articles 10 and 11 of f ', e African Charter
Article 10
.1. Every individual shall have the right to free association provided that
he abides by the law.
2. Subject to the obligation of solidarity provided for in Article 29 no
one may be compelled to join an association.
Article .11
Every individual shall have the right assemble freely with others. The
exercise of this right shall be subject only necessary restrictions
provided for by law in particularly those enacted in the interest of
national security, the safety, health, ethics and rights and freedoms of
others.
LEGISLATION AND POLICY
Article 21 of the Constitution also provides:
1. All person shall have the right to:
a. freedom of speech and expression, which shall include academic
freedom of the press and other media;
b. freedom of thought, conscience and belief which shall include
academic freedom;
c. freedom to practise any religion and to manifest such practice;
d. freedom of assembly including freedom to take part in
processions and demonstrations;
e. freedom of association, which shall include freedom to form or
join trade unions or other associations, national and
international, for the protection of their interest;
