CHAPTER 8 Article 8 Freedom of conscience, the profession and free practice of religion shall be guaranteed. No one may, subject to law and order, be submitted to measures restricting the exercise of these freedoms. 238. The State party protects the freedom of conscience, religion and the freedom to manifest such religion either alone or in community with others. A. LEGISLATIVE MEASURES The Constitution 239. Article 19 of the Constitution guarantees the freedom of conscience which includes the freedom of thought and religion, the freedom to change one’s religion or belief and the freedom either alone or in community with others in public and in private, to manifest and propagate one’s religion or belief in worship, teaching, practice and observance. 240. It further states that a minor attending any place of education is not required to receive religious instruction or to take part in any religious ceremony or observance except with the consent of his parent or guardian, especially where the instruction or religious ceremony is different from his own. 241.
