Domestic Saving and Investment The increase in investment in Ethiopia has been another key driver of the rapid economic growth registered over the last four years. The investment rate has persistently increased over the period (between 2009-2012). In 2009/10 and 2010/11, capital formation (investment rate) accounted for about 24.7 percent and 27.9 percent respectively. The investment rates were 33.1 percent in 2011/12 and 33 percent in 2012/13. The investment rate in 2012/13 was remarkably higher than the GTP target of 28 percent set for the year. These are significantly high rates of investment. The investment rate has not only been high, but it also grew at a much faster rate than in previous years, becoming a major driver of economic growth over the past three years. 16
