4.1 Objective 1: Promote Macroeconomic Policies that support Sustainable
Development
4.1.1 The policy focus of Nigeria’s Vision 20:2020 is the promotion of macroeconomic policies that support maintenance of stability with a view to positioning
the economy on a sustainable growth and development trajectory. Accordingly, some of the key macroeconomic strategies are based on three pillars,
namely, guaranteeing the productivity and well-being of Nigerian people, optimizing key sources of economic growth and fostering sustainable social and
economic development. The strategies include the following:
achieving double digit growth rates and maintaining strong economic
fundamentals, including inflation, exchange and interest rates as well as
other monetary aggregates;
achievement of significant progress in economic diversification such as to
achieve an economic structure that is robust and consistent with the
goals of Nigeria Vision 20:2020;
stimulating the manufacturing sector and strengthening its linkage to the
agricultural and oil and gas sectors in order to realize its growth potentials and serve effectively as a strong driver of growth;
