constitutional framework, compliance with the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and other regional and
international human rights instruments to which the country is a State Party.
43. Accordingly, Mozambique has received UA and UN officials responsible for
special mechanisms, including special rapporteurs, within the framework of the
evaluation of the human rights situation in the various fields, namely: health,
housing, extrajudicial executions, tortures and such like.
44. In the specific context of the African Union, the Republic of Mozambique has
been attending the ordinary sessions of the African Commission on Human and
Peoples’ Rights where it presents reports on the human right situations in the
country. Mozambique has also sought to comply with its obligation to submit
periodic reports under Article 62 of the African Charter as in the present exercise.
45. Regarding visits by Independent Experts, it is worth mentioning the visit that
ACHPR Vice-chairperson Mumba Malila made to Mozambique in February 2011.
His report on the visit was submitted to the 49th Session of the African
Commission in Banjul, The Gambia.
