It also requires Member States to prohibit and condemn all forms of harmful practices against women, such as female genital mutilation, and to ensure that women and men enjoy equal rights in marriage, participation in the political and decision-making processes, and equality in the enjoyment of economic and social welfare rights. The Protocol also requires Member States to ensure its implementation at the national level and to indicate (in their periodic reports under the Charter) the measures taken to guarantee that these rights are respected.
