The Government

Out of 17 Ministerial portfolios forming the Sahrawi Government, women have
been appointed at the head of three ministries, namely, the Ministries of Education,
Culture, Social Welfare and Women‟s Affairs. The visibility of women in the Executive
Arm is a response to the State strategy and choices in line with the directives contained
in the Solemn Declaration on Gender Equality in Africa which accords special attention
to the participation of women in the decision-making process.
The Judiciary
103.
The judiciary which used to be dominated by men due to traditional practices of
the past, now includes women through the relentless efforts of the Sahrawi State. They
now participate in the management of the Justice sector through the training of many
lady judges, lawyers and court clerks.

The Sahrawi women have now become judges, presiding over disputes and
issuing judgements on behalf of the people in all the national courts at different levels of
litigation.

The justice sector has been strengthened by female
competences.

indication of the importance the State accords to women based on the principle of equal
opportunities and merits in the performance of their public functions at the various levels
of specialization.
Constitutional Council
106.
The Constitutional Council is composed of five members among them a woman,
after being absent from this constitutional institution from its inception.
