10.14 According to the 2011 LFS, 78 percent of the households used safe water for drinking and cooking. Thirty-four percent of the households had their source of water on the premises. The survey also revealed that 63% of households used safe sanitation, that is they used either of the following toilet facilities: flush, blair or pit toilet with slab. 26% of the households did not have any toilet facility. 10.15 Government has engaged cooperating partners to provide food assistance and other social safety measures including cash transfers to mitigate the effects of the economic challenges the country is facing. Challenges 10.16 There is gender imbalance in participation in key sectors of the economy as illustrated on the table on paragraph 37.11 above.
