The report highlights the developments that took place in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania in the area of human and peoples’ rights and the legislative, administrative and other measures taken with the view to giving effect to the implementation of the rights and freedoms recognized and guaranteed by the African Charter since the presentation of its Combined Preliminary Periodic Report at the 31st Ordinary Session held from 2 to 16 May, in Pretoria, South Africa. 6. These Concluding Observations present positive factors and limitations to the effective enjoyment of human rights and the areas of concern regarding the respect for human rights in the country in relation to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the Maputo Protocol. Furthermore, the Commission has come up with recommendations for the Mauritanian Government to strengthen the enjoyment of human rights by all the people of Mauritania. 7. The Commission commends the Delegation of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania for the open and constructive dialogue that characterized the presentation of the Combined Periodic Report and the information provided in response to the concerns expressed by Members of the Commission. 2
