In addition to signing these codes and standards, Lesotho has enacted a number of domestic labour laws to promote the realisation of these fundamental rights. A more detailed discussion on the labour standards and practices prevailing in Lesotho appears under objective 2 of this chapter. Codes on industrial and environmental safety and hygiene of the WHO 517. Lesotho is a signatory to various international standards pertaining to occupational health and safety. They include the Occupational Safety and Health Convention of 1981 (No. 155) and the Safety and Health in Construction Convention of 1988 (No. 167). Lesotho has developed laws relating to safety in welding and cutting, spray painting, noise, construction and using chemicals. Stakeholders, however, raised concerns about the safety and health conditions in the textile, wool and mohair industries. They often do not have adequate protective equipment and this leads to health issues for workers. iii. Recommendations 518.
