Article 18 of the Charter
.1. The family shall be the natural unit and basis of society. It shall be
protected by the State, which shall take care of its physical and
moral health

The State shall have the duty to assist the family, which is the
custodian of morals and traditional values recognized by the
community

The State shall ensure the elimination of every discrimination against
women and also ensure the protection of the rights of the women and
the child as stipulated in international declarations and conventions.
4.
The aged and the disabled shall also have the right so special
measures of protection in keeping with their physical or moral needs.

Protection of the Family
Like most social institutions in contemporary Africa, the family is the site
of major struggles for human social advancement, release and realization
of the human potential. Several articles in the Constitution provide for
the protection of individuals from discrimination and other forms of
unfair treatment. Most of these provisions serve to strengthen the
family; an institution widely recognized as one of the most fundamental
agents of social development.
Several aspects of the Constitution are progressive in their potential
contribution to the protection of family welfare in Ghana. Without
seeking to provide an exhaustive list of these provisions, it is pertinent to
identify the following:
