achieved by optimizing human and natural resources to achieve rapid economic growth, as well as translating that growth into equitable social development for all citizens. 6.1.3 To realize the Vision, the present Administration in Nigeria has embarked upon a transformation agenda that pursues complete structural transformation of the society from a mono product economy to a diversified, industrialized economy, using the people as the major catalyst for growth and national renewal as well as investing to create an environment that enables the co-existence of growth and development on sustainable basis. 6.1.4 In order to bridge the gap between policy decision and policy implementation, as well as to deepen and develop the capability of government to consistently translate national strategic intent into actions and results through evidencebased decision making, the present Administration has constituted a 24-man strong Economic Management Team as the hub of government’s economic decision making and a 15 man Economic Implementation Committee that will oversee the effective implementation of government policies. 6.1.5 Through various institutions and agencies, Federal, State and Local Governments are undertaking massive public awareness and sensitization of the people towards a national re-orientation. These programmes are targeted at improving the general well being of the entire citizenry and they cover the education, health and environmental sectors. 6.1.6 The Federal Government has also embarked upon massive rehabilitation of all the deteriorated federal highways, construction of new highways and expansion of existing ones that have come to be congested due to large traffic. For example, all the major roads that lead into the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have been converted to four lanes dual carriage ways in order to ease traffic flow. Also, the major federal highways connecting Abuja to the southern parts of the country are undergoing dualization. Similar efforts are also being undertaken by the Federal Government across the six geopolitical zones of the country. 71
