Street children and HIV/AIDS orphans These are children who need special protection on account of being in risky or vulnerable conditions and situations. The majority of the children in the forum agreed that in their communities they have children living in the streets and orphans. The contributing factor for their conditions is mainly due to; · poverty of parents or parents separation · child neglect and abandonment by parents · alcoholic parents · parents who died of HIV/AIDS · child abuse/parents’ violence Early and forced marriage It is the forum view that a girl under the age of 18 years is physically immature for marital responsibility and they suffer from pregnancy and delivery complications. They are prevented from educational opportunities. The minimum age of 15 years for females to marry regardless of parents consent is very low. Recommendations: · To strengthen the family unit by encouraging and assisting poor families to engage in income generating activities · To punish abusive parents and those who abandon their children · Parents consent should be abolished and to enact a law that punishes parents who force their daughters into early marriage · Minimum age for marriage to be set at 18 years 12.
