Challenges and efforts to mitigate
149. A big challenge facing labour and employment in Lesotho there is very high
unemployment rate. In 2013 about 25% of the population was unemployed. Thirty-five
percent of this constituted young people and 30% of the general population of unemployed
constituted women. The proportion of unemployment is linked to low levels of educational
attainment and to vulnerability of households, their structure and living conditions. The
probability of a member of a poor and uneducated family finding a job is very low because
of limited opportunities for education, training and information about the job market.
