IN THE EAST AFRICAN COURT OF JUSTICE APPELLATE DIVISION ____________ EIGHTH SCHEDULE: TAXATION OF COSTS (Rule 129(3)) Interpretation. 1. In this Schedule, a folio means one hundred words, and a single figure or a group of figures up to seven shall count as one word. Lodging and service of bill of costs. 2. (1) Where costs are to be taxed, the advocate for the party to whom the costs were awarded shall lodge his bill with the taxing officer and shall, within seven (7) days after lodging it serve a copy of it on the advocate for the party liable to pay it. (2) A bill of costs shall be lodged as soon as practicable after the making of the order for costs and not later than twenty one (21) days after a request in writing therefor by the party liable or such further time as the Registrar may allow. (3) A bill of costs may not be lodged by an advocate who is not on the record. Form of bill. 3. (1) A bill of costs shall be instituted and filed in the proceedings and shall be in form of bills prepared in five columns as follows— (a) the first or left hand column for the dates of the items; (b) the second column for the serial number of items; (c) the third column for the particulars of the services charged for; (d) the fourth column for the professional scale charged; (e) the fifth column for the taxing officer’s deductions. 122
