Similarly, Tanzania has taken measures to update some of the laws. For example, on
matters relating to birth registration, the Birth and Death Regis tration Act CAP .1 08 R.E.
of 2002 was amended in 2005 (Act No. 13 of 2005) to reduce cumbersome procedures on
hirth registration. The law also provides for late registration of birth for those who
happen not to have been registered at birth. The office of the Registrar General has been
on campaign on the importance of birth registration to ensure that every birth is registered
ut a place where it occurs.
Furthermore, the government intends to issue a White Paper to collect stakeholders'
views before formulating legislation on the law of marriage, law of the child, inheritance
and succession.
1\s for the case of Tanzania, Zanzibar there is in place the Birth and Death Registration
Decree which requires parents to notify the Registrar of birth within forty - two days of
the birth of the child. For birth taking place in prisons, hospitals, orphanage/quarantine
·;tations, the heads of these institutions are supposed to report.
Some of the principles of the Charter have been incorporated and therefore domesticated
