During the process of recruiting Judicial Officers (Magistrates and Judges), the Judiciary through the Judicial Service Commission is guided by the principles of competitiveness, transparency and promotion of gender equality. So far 42 women have been competitively appointed to the bench. The number of women judges is set to increase following the amendment of the Judicature Act to increase the number of Court of Appeal judges from 14 to 30 and the High Court judges from 70 to 150. a.
