APRM • SECOND COUNTRY REVIEW REPORT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA
Economy
Kenya’s real GDP growth has averaged 5.5 % for the last seven years. The Gross
Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 5.6% in 2015 compared to 5.3% growth in 2014.
This growth was a result of significant growth in some key sectors among them
agriculture; construction; real estate; and financial and insurance. The GDP growth is
expected to continue its similar growth trajectory in 2016 and 2017.
Major macroeconomic indicators such as inflation, current account deficit and
exchange rate remained relatively stable in the year 2014 & 2015. Inflation eased from
6.9% in 2014 to 6.5% in 2015 due to lower energy and transport prices. The current
account deficit as a percentage of GDP narrowed from 10.3% in 2014 to 7.9% in 2015.
