To ensure safe transportation on the Volta Lake, one new ferry has been built for the Volta Lake Transport Company. 4.3.5 Information, Communication Technology (ICT) The ICT sector has expanded significantly over the years. The contribution of ICT to GDP increased from 3.0 percent in 2010 to 10.5 percent in 2011 and created 3,500 additional jobs compared to 3,050 in 2010. The penetration rate of telephones reached 84.6 percent in 2011. Internet service subscription increased from 1,296,047 in 2009 (representing a penetration rate of 11%) to over 4 million subscribers in 2011 (representing a penetration rate of 21%). As at end September 2011, a total of 105,678 mobile phone subscribers had taken advantage of the MNP to move from one mobile service provider to another. After the expiration of their 30-day mandatory waiting period, 2,477 subscribers elected to port back to their previous service provider, whilst 303 subscribers ported to a third network.
