2.1 STANDARDS AND CODES The country has signed up to the following Conventions, Treaties and Agreements: - The African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance - United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Optional Protocol - The African Youth Charter - Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons Especially Women and Children Supplementing the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Crime - Amendment to Article 43, Paragraph 2 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) - ECOWAS Convention on small arms and light weapons, their ammunition and other related materials - United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) (Resolution 34/180 of December 1979) - United Nations Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) (Resolution 54/4) The following domestic laws were also passed: • National Peace Council Act, 2011 (Act 818) • Law Reform Commission Act, 2011 (Act 822) The country has ratified forty-three of the fifty-three Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) treaties, protocols and conventions she has signed (Table 2.1).
