INTRODUCTION On its accession to independence on 15th August 1960, the Republic of Congo proclaimed its commitment to the ideals of human rights. The ratification of a number of international legal instruments on human rights including the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights gave concrete expression to this commitment. This initial and cumulative report submitted in accordance with Article 62 of the above Charter covers the commitments made by the Republic of Congo.
