Mechanisms Established for Preventing, Reducing and Managing Intra/InterState Conflicts in Nigeria: 3.1.3 Government in its effort to manage internal conflicts also strengthening the following established bodies/institutions.  Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC): This came into being as a voluntary association made up of fifty (50) members, comprising 25 Christians and 25 Muslims to provide a platform for high-level dialogue between Christians and Muslims, with a view to promoting public good and mutual respect and understanding among practitioners of the two major religions. The body is co-chaired by the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). Though a voluntary organization, NIREC receives support and assistance for the pursuit of its aims and objectives from the government.  Nigerian Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (NIPCR): This was established to research into the causes of conflicts with a view to mainstreaming the findings and recommendations into peace building efforts in the country.  National Boundaries Commission: The Commission is an institution of Government that is responsible for sustaining mutual and peaceful relationship between the states and among communities over border disputes. 18
